Odin New York opened its first boutique in the fall of 2004 in the East Village of Manhattan. The shop located at 328 East 11th Street was one of the first lifestyle stores dedicated to men. In 2006, Odin New York opened at 199 Lafayette street with a larger flagship space at the intersection of Soho, Nolita, and Chinatown. They recently open the West Village store located at 750 Greenwich Street. All stores stock a range of collections from established as well as emerging designers including footwear, accessories, and bath & grooming products.
Odin is a new fragrance brand. Odin diversified with its own line of fragrances in 2009, joining a number of new independents moving into the perfume market. These small brands produce counterintuitive products that go against mass-market trends. Many of these new perfume lines, described as niche, function on small budgets with little or no advertising costs and their marketing relies on word of mouth and public appreciation for something different. Collectively, they have a big effect on perfume sales and some larger companies have begun mimicking the niche trend sparking the term masstige or faux-niche, used to describe small ranges parented by larger parent companies.
Even though it is independent, Odin is no rags to riches story as the owners were already successful business owners on Manhattan’s retail landscape but the brand is one example of a small independent label that has taken on some of perfume’s bigger names and they are succeeding. Their fragrances were made in collaboration with perfumers Kevin Verspoor, Pierre Constantin Gueros, Jean-Claude Delville and Corinne Cachen.
The clean, monochromatic lines and black-on-black motif of Odin Fragrances and Home Fragrances packaging illustrates the relationship between minimalist-inspired design and the the balance of masculine versus feminine. Each Odin fragrance explores a different travel reference from the Mediterranean to the Middle East to provincial Japan. The perfume’s packaging offers a tactile experience dressed in black. High gloss graphics feel cool under fingers and the black paper has a soft almost powdery texture. A grosgrain pull-tab opens the draw to reveal the amber glow of the glass bottle. Here bellow we try to present them shortly. But for more information we invite you to follow the link bellow our post.
01 NOMAD
01 Nomad is a sleek tonka bean-centered fragrance with top notes of juniper and palmarosa ( smelling like a sweet straw-citrus peel accord ) and cedar and soft heliotrope in the base. The fragrance is well blended and there is not a lot of development from the top notes through the dry-down, but the perfume is so pleasant, smells so good. Can be described as a “masculine vanilla” scent with great lasting power. This line was developed by perfumer Kevin Verspoor.
02 OWARI
If the non-stop, multi-fragrance-collection launches have exhausted you, I’ll save you some time with the Odin line: try 02 Owari first to experience its peppery, green-citrus opening (verging on “tomato leaf”) and its pungent, long-lasting tangerine note. Neroli is discernible starting in the fragrance’s mid-development and it’s accompanied by a dab of sweet musk; an interesting, powdery and tart musk-citrus accord appears during the dry-down. 02 Owari is a deluxe sport fragrance that replaces the genre’s usual raspy bergamot-lemon opening with delicious-smelling green and tangerine notes. 02 Owari has good lasting power for a citrus-y cologne. This line was developed by perfumer Pierre-Constantin Guéros .

03 CENTURY
Is a super-soft (talc-y) fragrance; Odin classifies this perfume as a chypre, but I don’t detect moss at all. (03 Century’s birch is also faint and provides no smoky-leather aromas.) 03 Century starts with minty-menthol notes and myrrh; it’s sweet — in the way old-fashioned barbershop fragrances are sweet. 03 Century’s vetiver and patchouli notes “blur” to create a masculine amber-like aroma in mid-development that slowly morphs into an Old Spice-Meets-Musk base — clove/cinnamon and vanillic notes come to the fore. 03 Century is the most staid fragrance in the collection and has excellent lasting power. This line was developed by perfumer Kevin Verspoor.
04 PETRANA
This fragrance, transports the wearer to the Jordanian desert when it is abloom with its national flower, the Black Iris. 04 Petrana is the olfactory equivalent of a Kirsch and Cassis cocktail. It occupies that odd territory where something comely and sweet strays into a brooding underworld—and the effect is hypnotic. The fragrance notes include: Deep Purple Cassis, Pink Pepper, Herbaceous Coriander, Black Iris, Violet Leaf Absolute, Garden Heliotrope, Wild Orris Root, Earthy Vetiver, and White Musk. If in committing this list of notes to paper, the company felt it would help “sell” the scent to tack on such emphatic descriptors—i.e., not just Cassis, but ‘Deep Purple Cassis’; not just Coriander but ‘Herbaceous Coriander’—well, I can’t blame them. In the case of 04 Petrana, I find these descriptors fitting rather than mere hyperbole.
06 AMANU
This is the 5th scent in the collection, curiously 05 or No. 5 does not exist in the Odin collection. 06 Amanu was developed by perfumer Kevin Verspoor and evokes an airy freshness inspired by Mediterranean coastal lands. The Fragrance Foundation awarded their 2012 Fifi Indie Fragrance Award to 06 Amanu. Odin New York launches its fifth signature scent exclusively for Barney’s New York. Following in the steps of their four unisex fragrances: 01 Nomad, 02 Owari, 03 Century, and 04 Petrana, this new, exclusive fragrance is infused with the exoticism of travel and a modern approach to time-honored fragrance traditions. With 06 Amanu, continues to explore a complex layering of influences to arrive at a rich and evocative green scent. Combining tones from the Mediterranean and ancient Turkey, Odin creates a new fragrance that evokes a lush earthy aroma. The invigorating jasmine mixes with the rustic cedar leaf and amberwood creating an intricately layered scent with a beautiful balance of fresh, floral and woodsy notes.
07 TANOKE
This fragrance conjures the natural aromas of lush Californian landscapes near seaside terrains. The wood-based fragrance joins the well-defined scents in the Odin Fragrances catalog. 07 Tanoke was developed with Paris-based Drom perfumer Corinne Cachen to find the right balance of strength and lightness. Layering classically American scents inspired by the woods and surrounding waters of Northern California, 07 Tanoke arrives at a clean, crisp aroma that is grounded with a natural warmness. The masculine and feminine dichotomy that defines Odin Fragrances is apparent in the strength of the woodsy top notes that meet with the light finish. The fragrance’s unique blend creates an invigorating quality that achieves an everlasting effect. Amid the wilderness of coastal hinterland comes a woody blend grounded in soaring redwoods and warm musk. The core of Tanoke brings forth the balsamic resin of wet gaiacwood wrapped in smoky incense. Crisp black pepper, spicy ginger and bitter orange hover the surface with invigorating freshness.
08 SEYLON
Travel is a constant underlying influence for Odin New York fragrances and this time it takes them to the South Asian island of Sri Lanka. 08 Seylon employs vetiver, but differently through a calming blend of rich, earthy aromas. 08 Seylon employs vetiver, but differently through a calming blend of rich, earthy aromas. An airy palette of citrusy top notes is balanced with warm, spicy base notes – a journey through the damp soils of unknown Sri Lanka. The scent joins the catalog of Odin New York fragrances. Harvested from the wild landscapes of Sri Lanka comes a scent that represents an authentic interpretation of pure vetiver. Seylon opens with the watery crispness of fresh yuzu followed by the tartness of bitter orange and bergamot. Middle notes of spicy nutmeg, resinous elemi and wormwood merge together with a rich base of warm benzoin, damp oakmoss and the soft earthiness of vetiver.
