Tomboy is a French film directed by Céline Sciamma. It tells the story of a 10-year-old child who, after moving to a new place, takes advantage of the fact no one knows who he is so that he can live and play as a boy despite being seen as female by his family due to his female genitalia. It is the story of a young transsexual boy’s life before puberty and the simplicity of childhood life.
The film opened to critical acclaim, with many critics praising the directing as well as the acting for the young children. Mickaël (Zoé Héran), 10 years old, is a FTM transboy who over the summer moves to a new home. He introduces himself to the neighborhood kids as Mickaël, despite being named Laure by his parents, and participates in the games and activities of the children as a boy, while remaining closeted at home.
