With Mirko Siakkou-Flodin we are transported into another universe in which the tyre rhymes with finesse and elegance. His work inspires admiration, particularly when we understand the lack of flexibility and the roughness of the raw material involved. His artistic bent consists in giving life to piles of carcasses, by forming subtle assemblies and rendering the tyres more docile. Rubber acts just like a natural skin. His subtle designs give life to these imaginary animals and creations, conferring upon them a real expressivity and quite a disturbing realism. Mirko Siakkou Flodin was born in Dresden, Germany in 1963. From 1980 – 86 he apprenticed with metal artist A. Kühn in Berlin. His works are displayed in public spaces and in private collections around the world. “My desire as an metalartist working internationally is to design artwork which fits into the broader cultural context as well as the ambiance of the desired setting. Therefore, I strive to combine the site specific natural and architectural lines with traditional and historical themes to create nsomething both unique and representational for the piece in its setting”.
