Francesco Bertelli is a young Italian Art Director and Design Technologist currently working for The New York Times. He has been working as external consultant and web art director for many major Italian advertising agencies, small design boutiques, and the two largest newspapers in Italy, since 2001. And yes, he’s also the founder of Bertelli Biciclette Assemblate, that he considers his hobby. He grew up in a small town, and since he was a kid used to ride his bike for everyday life. Now Francesco builds these unique pieces that are conquering the hearts of New Yorkers. It all started because he could not find the design that he had in mind: for Francesco, bike manufacturers nowadays have bad taste and their logos are too big. As he explains: Every Bertelli bicycle is a unique design object that you won’t find in any store in New York City. Every part is assembled by hand, finished and fine-tuned by me, Francesco. All my bikes are track bikes and fixed gear only (with the exception of some coaster-brake builds). I combine brand new parts with “new old stock” and vintage parts found at flea markets, old bike shops, collectors and from my trustworthy suppliers.
