XOOM: The real rival of Galaxy Tab

amsung Electronics which has experienced great success with Galaxy S to Galaxy Tab, now has new rivals in tablet product. New rival is not Apple but LG Electronics and Motorola. Until last year, Samsung Galaxy Tab was the only Android tablet in global market. But through this MWC 2011, LG ‘G-Slate’ and Motorola ‘XOOM’ with same hardware performance and Android platform compared to Galaxy Tab 10.1 seem to threat of Samsung. As experiencing them at MWC 2011, operation interface of these 3 Android tablets is almost same. Unlike LG who added 3D function with ‘G-Slate’, because ‘XOOM’ is faithful to basic Google Android 3.0 reference, it will compete very closely to ‘Galaxy Tab 10.1’ using its low price and brand image. It also already has a name like ‘The First’ Android 3.0 tablet. This situation means the expansion of Android tablet market is needed and the needs for Android tablet will be increased. The market composition will be changed into ‘iPad vs. Android Tablets’ that Google wanted. Meanwhile, one industry official insisted that the light version of Google’s first Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) for only tablet is necessary. Android tablet platform which can be run with not high performance processor like ‘Nvidia Tegra’ but general single core and through this, it has to be offered to consumers with lower price. If this insistence comes true, more tablet manufacturers will offer Android tablets with lower price and all manufacturers should be rivals each other. Another must-watch point is if ‘Galaxy Tab 10.1’ And ‘XOOM’ will be the weapon of Google standing against iPad or if they will compete closely just in limited Android tablet market.
