alter Trecchi was born in Como in 1964. He graduated at the Silk Technical Institute with a specialization in textile design. He started working in the fashion, cooperating with the major international firms. After being selected for “Arte Prize” in 1998, he devoted completely to painting. In the last years he has been marked on the international art scene for a research focused on the representation of the city scenery and of the contemporary metropolis, a golden organism provided with an independent life, in constant changing and growing. In his works the city becomes a metaphysical space, motionless but full of experienced traces, suspended in a time without time. Historical buildings and urban outskirts, industrial archaeologies become crocks of which remain only walls in ruin. Perspective shots in which man is absent but cranes and scaffoldings leant on facades testify the positive will of making. “Walter Trecchi’s new works show an important turning point in the Italian painter’s interpretation of contemporary metropolises. In Equilibri, the artist ties together urban and natural iconography in a series of triptychs representing the coexistence of the opposites which generates the outer world. Trecchi’s interest in the relationship between the contraries is a search for balance in his artistic route and an excursion through the secret structure of reality, where no real borders exist and whose source is contamination. Synthetic and natural sceneries are thus combined in quick sequences whose formal language inherits some of Trecchi’s informal experiences. Skyscrapers and bare trees, cranes and branches, façades and green barriers are connected and slide through the canvases, recalling the continuity of Italian fresco paintings. Vertical lines are mitigated by the diagonals of architectural perspectives, emptiness and background are erased by wide, upright brushstrokes which mix the layers of the composition and enhance the bond between the pictures. Perimeter is but a word, abstraction is the real origin of the human tendency for discrimination. In Trecchi’s works, light slides into darkness, steel converses with living wood and iron trunks reflect their profiles in the glass of the buildings. In most canvases, a scratch of paint erodes the surface of the illustration and opens a threshold on a mysterious dimension, where man can sense his genesis. Between natural and artificial forces, man locates himself and the beginning of his action, which produces architecture and preserves nature. The lack of narration in the paintings is therefore a way of questioning the essence of mankind, a unique alchemy of creation and creator. Finally, the artist declares his awareness of the human world’s complexity through the reconciliation of its extremities and underlines the peculiar results of his metropolitan quest”( Giacomo Magistrelli ). Nice words of Mr. Magistrelli about this Italian artist.
