ngelbert Frauscher was ready to open his first shipyard at the old Danube in Vienna, the United States were already celebrating the heydays of boat racing. And it was during the winter of 1921-22 that the rules governing the Gold Cup Races were dramatically changed by the American Power Boat Association. The changes limited engine size, length and configuration of hulls. The wish was to actually “encourage gentlemen’s runabouts so that they could be used for family recreation as well as racing. This on the other hand made racing possible for pleasure, only, with style and honour. Engelbert Frauscher quickly gained an excellent reputation and in the 1930s crafted O-Yawls for the Olympic Games.

Nevertheless, war broke through and things froze for a while to restart in 1945 in Gmunden, where tradition went on and on. In the ‘50s the first electric and motor boats left that very yard and ever since, Engelbert’s sons and grandsons and their kids continuously advanced the development. Two if them, Hans and Stefan won even championship titles in regatta sailing on H-boats constructed of course in the family shipyard. Today, their diamonds of boats are being distributed and loved in more than 14 countries.Going back to the ‘20s though, it was in that specific period of time that numerous of wonderful boats were created that have now inspired the Frauscher family to take the essence and vision of those good old times and recreate the spirit in the 21st century.

The outcome was a well tested sub construction developed carefully along the lines of the racers that inspires to realize the unique watercraft. A central motorization with the classic shaft propulsion and the exceptional hull design that allows for perfect manoeuvring at all times. In short: the Frauscher 717 GT, a truly fantastic gentlemen’s racer. Die Bootswerft Frauscher feierte ihren 80. Geburtstag.

as nennt man eine bewegte Geschichte: Durch die wirtschaftlich triste Situation in den 20er Jahren des vorigen Jahrhunderts von Oberösterreich nach Wien verschlagen, gründete Engelbert Frauscher 1927 an der Alten Donau seine Bootswerft. Rasch erwarb er sich einen exzellenten Ruf als Bootsbauer und so wurden auch O-Jollen für deutsche Olympioniken des Jahres 1936 in der Frauscher Werft gefertigt. Im Krieg wurde dann die Bootswerft ausgebombt und zerstört. Engelbert flüchtete aus der russischen Besatzungszone und kehrte ins Salzkammergut zurück. In Gmunden hatte sich in der Zwischenzeit die amerikanische Armee im Union Yacht Club Traunsee niedergelassen und die Soldaten segelten die dort vorhandenen Holzboote zu Schrott. Hier gab es also genug Arbeit für einen tüchtigen Bootsbauer und so startete Engelbert Frauscher ein zweites Mal. In den folgenden Jahren wurden viele Motor- und Segelboote von Engelbert Frauscher gebaut und es dauerte nicht lange bis auch seine Söhne Ernst und Hans in der Werft zu arbeiten anfingen. Neue Projekte folgten: So wurden Bootshäuser und eine Hafenanlage gebaut, Motor- und Segelboote entwickelt und auch eine Segelschule gegründet. Anfang der 70er Jahre wurde dann eine neue Produktionsstätte in Gschwandt errichtet, in der bis heute produziert wird. Das Regattasegeln mit den von Frauscher produzierten H-Booten nahm ab den 80er Jahren einen hohen Stellenwert ein. Durch die quasi hausintern erzielten Erfolge – jeweils ein Weltmeistertitel von Hans und Stefan Frauscher – wurde die Qualität der Boote eindrucksvoll unterstrichen. In den 90ern kam mit Michael, Andrea und Stefan die dritte Generation im Unternehmen ans Ruder. Neue Elektroboot- und Motorboottypen wurden entwickelt und die Internationalisierung des Unternehmens vorangetrieben. In der Zwischenzeit gibt es Frauscher Händler in 14 Nationen, unter anderem auch in den USA, Russland und Korea. Auch die wirtschaftlichen Daten können sich sehen lassen: 9 Millionen Euro Umsatz, 42 Mitarbeiter, eine Exportquote von 70 % und rund 150 gefertigte Boote pro Jahr sprechen für sich. Das 80-Jahr-Jubiläum wurde anlässlich der „Frauscher & Friends Messe“ im Toscana Kongresszentrum gebührend gefeiert, gleichzeitig stellte man den neuesten Wurf aus dem Hause Frauscher, den ultimativen Day Cruiser „Frauscher 909 Benaco“ vor.
