# The Iziko South African National Gallery, Cape Town, has reopened with 1910-2010: From Pierneef to Gugulective – A fresh look at a century of South African art. The exhibition includes works by Zanele Muholi, Anton Kannemeyer, Nicholas Hlobo, Nandipha Mntambo, Sabelo Mlangeni, Berni Searle, Simon Gush, Pieter Hugo, Guy Tillim, Jo Ractliffe and Mustafa Maluka, among others.
# Zanele Muholi will take part in a workshop at the Musée des Confluences in Lyon from 25 May to 7 June as part of the Fondation Blachère award granted to her at the 2009 Bamako photography festival. She then takes up a residency in Avignon from 8 to 20 June.
# Muholi’s work can be seen on the group show Mosaïque de photos in Chartres, France, during May, and on I am not afraid: The Market Photo Workshop, Johannesburg, showing at Johannesburg Art Gallery until 25 April; also included on the latter is Sabelo Mlangeni.
# Muholi and Bitterkomix artists Conrad Botes and Anton Kannemeyer have work on …for those who live in it: Pop culture, politics and strong voices at MU Eindhoven, The Netherlands, opening 22 May.
# Penny Siopis, Conrad Botes and Nandipha Mntambo are included on the 17th Sydney Biennale, The Beauty of Distance: Songs of survival in a precarious age, which runs from 12 May to 1 August.
# Nandipha Mntambo and Serge Alain Nitegeka have work on Dak’Art, the 9th Dakar Biennale, running from 7 May to 7 June.
# Simon Gush’s first European solo exhibition, 1st and 3rd, takes place at Galerie West in the Hague, the Netherlands, from 21 April to 29 May.
# Nicholas Hlobo’s Standard Bank Young Artist exhibition, Umtshotsho, is at the Standard Bank Gallery, Johannesburg, until 8 May, then travels to the Iziko South African National Gallery, Cape Town, opening 30 May.
# Pieter Hugo has solo shows at Shoshana Wayne in Los Angeles, until 29 May; Le Chateau d’Eau in Toulouse, France, from 12 May to 27 June, and at Colette in Paris from 31 May to 3 July.
# Steven Cohen performs his latest work Golgotha at La Maison Folie, Mons, Belgium, on 22 May. His Chandelier video will be screened at the KZNSA Gallery in Durban from 11 to 30 May.
# Berni Searle, Nandipha Mntambo and Willem Boshoff are included on SPace: Currencies in contemporary African art at Museum Africa in Newtown, Johannesburg, from 11 May to 11 July.
# Ângela Ferreira will take part in a panel discussion, ‘After Colonialism’, at Tate Modern, London, on 8 May, talking about her Maison Tropicale and Werdmuller Centre projects. She has a show titled Double Lecture at the alternative project space Carpe Diem in Lisbon until 29 May, and is included in the Bucharest Biennale, from 21 May to 25 July.
# Lynette Yiadom-Boakye’s first New York solo show takes place at Jack Shainman Gallery from 22 April to 22 May.
# Life Less Ordinary: Performance and display in South African art travels to the Ffotogallery in Cardiff, Wales, from 30 April to 12 June. Artists include Pieter Hugo, Zanele Muholi, Nandipha Mntambo, Steven Cohen, Dineo Bopape, Berni Searle and Andrew Putter.
# Conrad Botes has a solo show titled House of Judas at Fred [London], running till 30 April.
# Guy Tillim’s Avenue Patrice Lumumba will show at Kuckei + Kuckei in Berlin from 1 May to 12 June, and as part of a group exhibition at Galerie van der Mieden, Antwerp, from 29 April to 6 June.
