PFV ( Primum Familiae Vini ) : The Leading Wine Families

Also known as PFV, is an international association of some of the world’s finest wine producing families from France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain, the “Leading Wine Families”. PFV was created in 1922 and membership is by invitation only, with a maximum of 12 highly respected families contributing generations of expertise. PFV members aim to defend and promote the traditions and values of family owned wine companies, and ensure that such ideals survive and prosper for future generations. Each family owns vineyard estates, is one of the most prestigious producers and enjoys an international reputation for its wines.

Currently, eleven of the world’s Leading Families make up the association: Marchesi Antinori, Château Mouton Rothschild, Joseph Drouhin, Egon Müller Scharzhof, Hugel & Fils, Champagne Pol Roger, Famille Perrin, the Symington Family Estates, Tenuta San Guido, Miguel Torres and Vega Sicilia.

Each year in turn, a member of the association is elected President: Frédéric Drouhin for 2011/2012 and Philippine Rothschild for 2012/2013. Each year in July, PFV members meet together in the country of the current Presidency. Maison Joseph Drouhin is hosting the PFV annual meeting in July 2012 in Beaune, Burgundy.

These meetings reunite all the members of the association, their extended families, and some of their management teams, to share best practice, discuss developments in the wine world, and agree on activities for the coming year.

The PFV regularly holds a series of tastings and dinners around the world to present its members’ wines for the benefit of a local charity and to enable consumers to meet the producers face to face. The dinners are organised in partnership with some of the top international hotel groups who ensure that only the finest local ingredients and products are showcased.

Each dinner starts with a champagne reception and each course is paired with two or three top wines – from each of the PFV estates. The Gala Dinners are an opportunity to raise funds for a local charity by auctioning a PFV Collection Case.

The beneficiaries have primarily been focused on helping disadvantaged children, the handicapped and specialist hospitals. For more information or to get in touch with PFV just follow the link below.
