Photographs showing a deportee bound and gagged using scotch tape taken by a passenger onboard an AlItalia flight have caused a scandal in Italy. The photograph shown here, posted to Facebook and Twitter by Italian filmmaker Francesco Sperandeo, was taken on a flight from Rome to Tunis. It received over 4000 shares on Facebook and has become national news in Italy. The uploader reported that the men were Tunisian but susequent reports said the pair were actually Algerian, and had been on a flight from Tunis to Turkey that stopped in Rome: ”Look what happened today on the 9.20 Alitalia flight from Rome to Tunis. Two Tunisian nationals deported from Italy and treated in an inhumane way. Brown wrapping tape around their face and gagging them, and plastic ties on their wrists. This is European civilization and democracy. But the worst part was the total indifference of the passengers at my request that the two be treated humanely. I was told I was arrogant, and to get back into my seat because this was a normal police operation. .. Normal?? I still managed to steal a photo! Share and denounce” write Sperandeo. We hope that European commission will provide immediately to fix this problem. We are sure that we are not talking about an isolated episode, but this happening more than often maybe not only in Italy.
