Not satisfied with just clothing, bicycle, luggage and even headphones, BMW has turned their minimalistic gaze on the private jet airplane industry. Collaborating with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, BMW DesignworksUSA brings us the Phenom 100 and 300. A mostly prototypical jet with one unique feature, a BMW inspired interior. Not that BMW interiors have ever been described as “inspired”, but this interior does a fine job of classing up a space that usually sees luxury arrive in the form of tacky limousine style interiors. Oddly, seat belts were not a design consideration for a company enjoying a flawless auto safety record. Sure, the Embraer technology is not of BMW company. The Brasilian jet at the moment is considered the most advanced in terms of techology and safety. Sure the BMW Designworks US, will give to this product the right style too. “DesignworksUSA was the only partner that was right for us,” commented Colin Steven, Vice President Marketing & Sales at Embraer.”We wanted to define a new standard for the executive jet.” Brazilian based Embraer, the third largest manufacturer of aircraft in the world, invited DesignworksUSA to the kick off meeting in the summer of 2004. The objective was clearly defined; the design studio was to develop the interior design for Embraer’s first executive jets in the light and very light segments – the Phenom 100 and the Phenom 300. The cabins and cockpits were to reflect the very best in functionality, the most select design quality and facilitate optimal efficiency and use of space in the cockpit, passenger and baggage areas.Congratulation to Embraer !
