AUDI SHARK HOVERCRAFT CONCEPT by Kazim Doku

he Audi Shark is a futuristic flying concept vehicle with a streamlined design inspired by motorcycles and airplanes. It was designed by Kazim Doku and won the Desire Competition by Domus Academy. The Shark Concept by Kazim Doku reinterprets the Audi’s design language in a futuristic way. It placed first in the Desire Design Competition launched in 2008 by Italian Domus Academy. The two-seater flying sports car is inspired by the world of motorcycles and airplanes and offers its passengers “strong sensations and high levels of safety.”

The streamlined design of the exterior offers a visual reference to the car’s name and – in combination with the rear lower spoiler – gives the vehicle an “underwater” appearance. Both the headlights and the tail lights are made by transparent tubes which integrate LED units. The interior features sporty seats integrated in the cockpit structure. Doku says the driving position is similar to a motorcycle “but with a car’s security.”
LED lights come straight out of the S5 parts bin, but the rear-hinged glass cockpit and air foils come straight out of the future. We also appreciate the side view mirrors, a must when gliding over roadways at breakneck speed.
The young Turk (really – he lives in Izmir, Turkey) already has won three other prizes for automotive design, which is remarkable considering the dearth of an automotive industry in his home country. Doku credits his success to a lifelong love of car design and “watching the automotive industry carrying the designs to the computer screen.” His previous prize-winning concepts include the fabric-skinned Peugeot Ustuminki, which was a finalist in the 2007 Peugeot Design Competition, and first prize in Turkey’s Ototrend contest for a no-doored concept called KA-Design. Although first prize in the Audi design competition was a 70 percent scholarship to the Domus Academy, Doku says he can’t afford the balance and has withdrawn his application for the Master’s in Automotive Design program. That’s a shame, because this Shark has some bite. Maybe Audi can give him a job! We wish our compliments to Doku and hope also small industries contact him to develop really new products. Doku’s design vision is really cool so we are sure he can produce new concepts in different product categories (furniture, electronics and why not also fashion). Kazim Doku – Contact details:
