COLDBLACK® by Schoeller Textil

ColdBlack[1]

ark colours are known to heat up in direct sunlight more than light colours because they absorb both the visible and invisible elements of the sun’s rays. coldblack® is a special fi nishing technology for textiles that reduces heat build-up on dark fabrics. Many textiles that are worn in summer or in the sunshine offer poor protection from damaging UV rays. The new coldblack® generation now guarantees a minimum UV protection of UPF 30 when applied for any textile* in any colour without affecting the look or feel of the product. We wear light-colored clothing on hot days because dark-colored objects absorb all visible light and heat, while white ones reflect the same. But people, of course, are fickle creatures and don’t always want to wear light-colored clothing. Help is at hand: A new finishing technology called ColdBlack, from Schoeller Textil, makes black fabrics reflective. The ColdBlack-treated fabric reflects heat from invisible infrared rays without affecting the fabric’s dark color. The technology is applied during the dyeing process and can be combined with other performance technologies such as self-cleaning, oil-repellent, and abrasion-resistant finishes — and onto stretch and non-stretch wool and nylon woven fabrics. The technology also complies with Bluesign, the well-respected independent standard for the textile industry that evaluates manufacturing processes and components such as dyes and finishing agents to ensure environmental, health, and safety criteria are met.
