am Jinks was born in Australia in 1973; he currently lives and works in Melbourne, Australia, where he creates his hyper-realistic sculptures out of silicon. Jinks has a background in film and television effects but has been working on his own art full time for the last five years. His works begin as clay sculptures built over an armature which is then molded and cast in silicon. Once the mold is cleaned he adds hairs and the final colors. At first sight, Sam Jinks’s work can seem dark and decadent, but you can feel a reflection of life, of human interaction at a purely visual level. His sculptures mean to get us involved in different experiences and feelings that go often unnoticed. Sam Jinks searches his inspiration in Renaissance artists; his experience as special effects creator for film and television, however, have influenced the way he creates his sculptures, thus giving as the final result a mixture of classical sculpture and modern art.
