iPAD VS. NEWSPAPER by Newsday

here are those who love their newspapers and books and those who adore their digital counterparts. But of all the issues that are usually debated the tactile feel of paper, the immediacy of a screen  fly-swatting is usually missing from the list. Newsday (a newspaper that covers Long Island and New York City) chose that angle for a very funny advertisement that promotes its new iPad application. The commercial, viewable at the link below, shows a man at his kitchen table enjoying the Newsday app on an iPad. As a fly circles, the man becomes distracted and eventually swats it with his expensive device, smashing the screen and missing the fly. The announcer notes, “The new Newsday iPad app is better than the newspaper in all kinds of ways. Except for one.” It was unclear how many iPads were harmed during the making of this video. The paper’s iPad app is unusual in the way it takes a hyperlocal approach to digital news. We are sure that paper newspapers and books will never be totally killed by the e-Pads. Anyway we wish  our compliments to the advertising agency for this wonderful idea. For sure they will get a good prize for this campaign.
