A native of Toronto, Glen Hanson is an internationally acclaimed illustrator, art director and writer. After studying animation at Sheridan College, Glen went on to design characters for TV’s BABAR, BEETLEJUICE and DARIA cartoon shows. In 2000 he was nominated for an ANNIE AWARD for his art direction and design on MTV’s internationally syndicated SPY GROOVE series. He has since developed shows for NICKELODEON, FILM ROMAN, STUDIO B, DISNEY and co-wrote, designed and storyboarded a series of animated promo spots for SOAP NET entitled “CRESCENT HOLLOW”. Glen’s illustrations have appeared in a variety of publications around the world including BRITISH VOGUE and GQ, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, NEWSWEEK, THE WALL ST. JOURNAL, MAXIM, FHM and VARIETY.
Celebrities like CAROL BURNETT, ROSIE O’DONNELL, BILLY CRYSTAL, MARY TYLER MOORE and TOM CRUISE all own original caricatures created by Glen. His roster of advertising clients includes TIMEX, GRAND MARNIER, MATTEL, McDonald’s, and most recently SUNSILK shampoo. His work can be seen on illustrated book covers for RANDOM HOUSE, KENSINGTON, HARLEQUIN, BRUNO GMUNDER, ALYSON BOOKS, the poster for the Off-Broadway hit play “ALTAR BOYZ” and on CD covers like BLINK 182’s “THE MARK, TOM and TRAVIS SHOW” for which Glen was awarded a certificate of excellence from the AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF GRAPHIC ARTS. Across the US, Glen’s images adorn gift set boxes and print ads for BOD men’s and women’s fragrance products. They have also appeared on the runways of Milan on a series of t-shirts as part of the spring and fall ’05 collections of European men’s wear designer, ANDREW MACKENZIE.
Ads designed by Glen for those collections were featured in both L’UOMO VOGUE and FLAUNT magazine. In the world of comics, Glen art directed both a best selling photographic comic cover and poster based on legendary underground character, Mr. X. This award winning poster has been included in “The Mr. X Archives” published in 2008 by Dark Horse Comics. He has written and illustrated numerous stories for DC’s Flintstones and Jetsons comics and co-wrote, along with Allan Neuwirth, DC COMICS’ “WONDER WOMAN VS. The RED MENACE” graphic novel.
The LGBT community may be more familiar with his G-Man and Chelsea Boys ventures… His sexy “G-MEN” images have been featured all over the world and the first hardbound collection book, appropriately entitled,G-Man was published by Bruno Gmunder in 2004. More of his “G-MEN” appear on the cover and throughout Gmunder’s new Stripped: The Illustrated Male gay erotic illustration compilation book.
Over the past years, Glen, along with Allan Neuwirth, has co-written and illustrated the syndicated comic strip Chelsea Boys, the continuing story of three gay roommates, as different as can be from one another, living together in the heart of Chelsea.
Filled with humor, humanity, and wry observations on life in a modern urban setting, the whole tapestry of New York City forms the backdrop of the series as its characters interact with people of all genders, races, ages, and sexual orientations.
The first Chelsea Boys book was published in 2003 by Alyson books and the latest addition, Chelsea Boys: Steppinn’Out! in hardcover has been pubblished in 2006 Entertainment Weeky called it “memorable”, “vividly drawn” and gave it a B-! Glen currently lives in Los Angeles.
