s the nearly forgotten and highly elusive Free-Jazz master who was recently “rediscovered” in New York’s Central Park by a Christian mission group (!?), playing his saxophone for change. The incredibly skilled multi-instrumentalist played with such luminaries as Earl Bostic, Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders, Patty Waters, Roswell Rudd, Bill Dixon, Don Pullen, Dave Burrell, Eddie Gomez and Milford Graves. Even though Logan played on many of these jazz legends’ LPs, he only had two albums himself until last year. his releases include, The Giuseppi Logan Quartet (1964) and More (1965) and 2009′s The Giuseppi Logan Quintet (2009). Giuseppi Logan (born May 22, 1935) is a jazz musician originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who taught himself to play piano and drums before switching to reeds at age 12. At the age of 15 he began playing with Earl Bostic and later studied at the New England Conservatory. In 1964 he relocated to New York and became embroiled in the free jazz scene. Logan played alto and tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, flute, piano and Pakistani oboe. Logan was a member of Byard Lancaster’s band and toured with and appeared on records by Patty Waters.
