nspired by the archive of legendary Italian designer Massimo Osti, Ma.Strum’s jackets won many admirers in the past thanks to their use of high-tech fabrics and design. Those principles are extended to the latest, naval-themed collection, which has been extended to include swimwear, cargo pants, and three military carbon-coated bags. According to the label’s creator and chief designer, Donrad Duncan: “It is a great honour to have access to Massimo Osti’s archive, and to have the opportunity to draw inspiration from the huge collection of designs, samples and futuristic fabrics that he pioneered. Experimental fabrics and unique coatings are apparent throughout the line and will be the essence of each collection moving forward.” For 2010 these include coated lined, ‘glass cotton’ fabrics and pique-weave knits containing special temperature regulating yarns. The designs hew closely to the military stylings of Osti, and also share his flair for experimenting with fabrics and attention to detail. Duncan, who has designed for Victorinox, has created pea coats, officer jackets, anoraks, and technical jackets with features like removable faux fur collars, asymmetrical zips, heated liners, and detachable logo tabs.
