As their parents go to work abroad, over 350,000 Romanian children are being left home alone. This powerful report asks why, in the care of relatives or neighbors, many of these children are turning to suicide. “We had no income, nothing”, says Claudia Ira. Unable to feed her children in Romania, Claudia was forced to leave them behind and go to find work in Italy. But after a few months abroad, she received the terrible news that her son had taken his own life. Her tragic story is just one of thousands of similar cases. Another desperate mother cries, “I thought it would be for our good”, as she tries to come to terms with her son’s suicide after she also went abroad looking for work. A beautiful and sensitive telling of a terrible story.
